(a) General Safety and Legislation

1. Duties and Responsibilities:

   • Duties of workmen, competent persons, and officials (excluding managers and assistant managers).
   • Discipline among workers and control of staff.

2. Provisions of Metalliferous Mines Regulations, 1961:

   • Working in metalliferous mines, use of explosives, blasting, loading, transportation, and dumping.
   • Precautions against fire, dust, gas, water, and other hazards.
   • Compliance with rules and regulations for which Foreman is responsible.

3. Report Writing:

   • Writing reports required by regulations.

4. Hazard Identification and Risk Management:

   • Hazard identification, risk assessment, and management.
   • Safety management plans.

5. Mine Gases:

   • Generation, properties, and effects.
   • Detection techniques, including gas detectors, gas chromatographs, and flame safety lamps.

6. Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences:

   • Causes and prevention of accidents.
   • Dealing with dangerous occurrences and accidents.
   • Accident reporting and rescue operations.

7. Mine Rescue:

   • Physiological effects of mine gases.
   • Rescue equipment and first aid.

8. Sanitation and Health:

   • Health concerns, miners' diseases, symptoms, and prevention.

(b) Methods of Working

1. Geological Conditions:

   • Nature and occurrence of metalliferous seams.
   • Geological disturbances and precautions when approaching such areas.

2. Boreholes and Shafts:

   • Utility of boreholes.
   • Shaft sinking and safety measures.
   • Examination of shafts and outlets.

3. Opencast Mining:

   • Mechanized and manual methods.
   • Deep hole drilling and blasting, shovel and dumpers, surface miners, benching, haul roads, reclamation, and dump management.

4. Stoping Methods:

6. Pumps and Drainage:

   • Types of pumps, principles of siphons, drainage, and water lodgment management.

7. Machinery Installation and Transport:

   • Code of practice for transport, installation, use, and shifting of machinery.

8. Belt Conveyors:

   • Operation of belt conveyors and related safety appliances.
