My examination centre for GAS TESTING was vocational training centre of tata steel at Ghato,Jharkhand. First we were made to sit in a room where verification of certificates was carried out and the ones whose verification was finished were called for interview. Some were directed towards the DDMS ( DDMS was from southern region) cabin and then to the cabin of some ProjectOfficer(PO or say Agent) of the local area (kujju) and vice versa. My interview was conducted in the second half of the day. After exhaustive waiting for 3 hours, my turn for interview came around 5:15 PM in the evening (though I was lucky that my turn came so late, because at the end of the day they were in hurry to finish the interviews, so they asked very few questions). First, I was directed to the DDMS. Upon entering the room, i saw numerous equipments kept at his table such as methanometer, hygrometer, different flame safety lamps, multigas detector etc. After brief introduction about me, the first question that I was asked was based on graham’s law of diffusion, I don’t remember the exact question, but it had to do something with methane’s ability to diffuse in still air, due the density difference between air and methane.
Then, second and last question followed: “what are the safety features of FSL?”, which I answered fluently. Then i was directed to the PO, upon entering he sent me to an adjacent room, i.e, gas chamber. The gas chamber had three flame safety lamps, we were to tell the methane percentage shown by each of them. Upon observing
keenly, I figured that the first and third indicated methane percentage of 2.5 while the second one had zero mathane content, I reiterated the same to the PROJECT OFFICER/AGENT upon exiting. He didn’t say whether i was right or wrong and carried on by asking me few questions. He asked me the methane percentage at which the explosion is most violent and why and whether 5% methane concentration in that room would result in explosion or not. That’s it, my interview was over and after wrapping all the interviews by 6:30 PM, the final result was declared at around 8 PM.
Advice to candidates:
Read every detail about Flame Safety Lamp, Gas monitoring devices, their working principles, coward diagram etc.
