Rule 29Q: Workmen's Inspector

Applicable: Mines with 500+ workers.

Designation: 3 qualified employees (mining, electrical, mechanical) in consultation with union/elected reps.

Extra Inspector: For every additional 1000 workers beyond 1500.

Eligibility: Must hold Overman/Foreman/Electrical Supervisor cert., 5 yrs experience (2 yrs in relevant mine), & 30-lecture orientation.

Duties: Inspect 2 days/week, report in Form-U.

Action: Mine management must act on reports within 15 days.
Rule 29T-29W: Safety Committee

Mandatory: Mines with 100+ workers.

Composition: Manager (Chair), 5 officials, 5 elected workers, Workmen's Inspector, Safety Officer (Secretary), optional co-opted members.

Functions: Review unsafe conditions, accidents, operations, safety campaigns, monthly meetings.

Reporting: Manager to report action within 15 days to Secretary.
Chapter V: Health & Sanitation

Rule 30: 2L drinking water/worker/shift, free & accessible. Cooling may be required.

Rule 33: Separate toilets (1 seat/50 workers), male & female.

Rule 34: Must be brick-built, ventilated, drained, whitewashed (every 4 months) or cleaned weekly if tiled.

Rule 37: Underground toilets required if greater than 50 workers, placed near shafts or suitable spots.
Chapter VI: First-Aid

Rule 43: Mines with greater than 150 workers need first-aid room:

For greater than 1000 workers: Full-time doctor, nurse, dresser (unless hospital nearby).

Rule 44: First-aid stations at shafts, sites, workshops, etc. (1 per 50 workers).

Rule 45: Officials (Overman, Sirdar) must carry portable kits.
Chapter VII: Employment

Rule 49: Max 2 compensatory rest days/week.

Rule 58: OT Wages paid at period end; 30+ min = 1 hr; daily rate = 1/26 of monthly wage.
