UNDERGROUND BLASTING PART-I
Introduction
Blasting is a controlled process that involves the use of explosives to break rock formations and create pathways for excavation and extraction.
There are many types of blasting patterns followed in mines for excavation and extraction purpose. These patterns are associated to solid blasting technique.
Solid blasting
Here, certain number of shot holes are drilled and charged with explosives. Then these holes are blasted using delay detonator.
-No initial cut is provided.(no cutting machine is used)
-Dynamic free face is created.
-Cost of operation is lower than cut blasting.
-Powder factor is less than cut blasting.
-Delay detonators are used for blasting.
-Here, the cut holes are blasted first using delay detonators, which create dynamic free face.
