In the interview panel there were 4 interviewers. One among them was a HR guy and other were
from engineering discipline, all of them above or of CGM (Chief General Manager) rank. I had
worn formal dress and was well groomed. After entering the room I wished everyone
individually and asked their permission to sit. One of them took my file and started looking into
it.

HR Guy- So why should we hire you? ( actually HR guy had this thing in his mind that I wont
join CIL and even if I join I will leave it after few years)
Later on when I joined CIL then I realized that why did he ask this question. Many young
executives who join COAL INDIA start preparing for UPSC or CAT exam and ultimately leave
it. Few leave the company due to its work culture and remote posting.
Me: I was ready for this type of question and had prepared well very convincing answer. Sir, I
belong to rural area . I have been born and brought up in a small village of Bihar. Since my
childhood I am hearing about these coal mafias, maoist , so these things won’t be a new thing for
me. I think I am very much suitable for this job. I can work at any remote area without complain
etc etc.
After this reply HR guy was very much pleased .
HR Guy- Payment of workers is regulated by which act?
Me: I dint remember at that time and said that I don’t know .( it’s answer would be payment of
wages act 1956)
My Advice To Candidates :
In interview you have to be yourself. Don’t try to hide anything from the panel as they will know
in sometime what are you.So if you know the answer just reply and if you don’t know then just
say with soft gesture that you don’t know. And be friendly with them as it will help you to
overcome the interview pressure. Go through historical background of your city/place. Have a
sound knowledge of your B.Tect Project , summer training/internship.
